Installing Electric Vehicle Charging
If you are considering making the move to an electric vehicle, the good news is that most vehicles can charge from your standard 120 volt power socket. But we have a few pointers to get the best solution for your home.
What type of charger does your vehicle require ? How fast do you need to be able to charge your car ?
Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, there are a few charging options available to you.
Most vehicles come with two plug types
– a portable charger that allows you to charge using a standard 120 volt outlet, and a charging lead designed to be used with an electric vehicle charging point.
A full charge using a standard outlet in your home may take 8-10 hours or more to get around 100 kms of driving range. However if you upgrade to a 240 volt charging set up, using a suitably rated circuit and heavy-duty outlet it can take a fraction of the time.
